October is National Energy Awareness Month, a time to spotlight the role of energy conservation and efficiency in our lives!
This is your call to action! We can make a difference by reducing energy consumption and minimizing our carbon footprint. Take these first steps!
💡 Get a No-Cost Home Energy Assessment- All New York homeowners of one-to-four family homes can get a no-cost energy assessment from a NYSERDA Residential Energy Auditor: https://on.ny.gov/4ekWDxu
💡Properly maintain your AC and heating systems- Heating bills account for 42% of residential energy use
💡Find and seal leaks- Check walls, ceilings, windows, doors, switches, and outlets for a potential 20% reduction in AC and heating bills. NYSERDA’s Comfort Home program makes it easy with “seal and insulate” packages: https://on.ny.gov/3XXMzov
💡Utilize a smart thermostat- Programmable thermostats can prevent overusing energy
💡Decrease water temperature- Heating water accounts for 18% of home energy consumption
💡 Change to LED light bulbs- LED consumes 25-80% less energy than incandescent bulbs
💡Wash clothes in cold water- 90% of energy used by a washing machine goes towards heating the water
