The Village has officially begun work under the USDA Tree Planting Grant, with 121 trees successfully planted in the first season. This is the first step toward our larger goal of planting 800 trees across the village in the coming years. In addition, we are finalizing the contract for a DEC Tree Planting Grant, which we hope will support the planting of approximately 150 more trees over the next year.
Unfortunately, many trees in the village suffered significant damage during utility line trimming in 2023. We are beginning to see the longer-term effects, and some trees now need to be removed for public safety and overall tree health. Other trees have been lost due to storm damage or natural aging. While our goal is to replace every tree that is removed, this process takes time.
We are working to use grant funding and the village budget as efficiently as possible to enhance our urban canopy. Residents with specific concerns about individual trees are encouraged to contact the Department of Public Works or the Sustainability Coordinator directly.
